In my garden

A change in the weather with some welcome rain but still warm with some sun.

The garden is looking quite flowery especially with the annuals I have been growing for cutting. I am presuming the weather is having an impact although other things aren't doing so well.

I am now starting to see things I should have done but didn't. This Clematis was moved to a temporary spot when the fence was replaced. 2 years later its still there. I have made a tripod with the straight stems of Corylus contorta.I must move it next autumn.

This is Veronica longiflorum 'Eveline' a favourite perennial. It doesn't grow as tall as some varieties so no staking is necessary. Lasts 7-10 days in a vase.

I'm disappointed with the sweet peas, I have only had a few flowers. I am glad I chose these varieties though. Cream 'Jilly', pink 'Nelly Viner' with the dark flowers of 'Monty Don'. The latter were sown from seed I collected from last years plants. I find it especially satisfying growing from seed I have collected myself.

  1. Monty Don is rather nice, the flower and the person both!

  2. Your garden is looking lovely. I have left mine to get on with it. My sweetpeas are not as good this year but I do love them so.
    Enjoy your garden Lesley.

  3. That is a lovely veronica. At the flower shop I work at, we do a lot of grouping, so will use 3 to 5 stems of veronica in sone spot to get a very strong statement. I think that I shall have to grow this one myself.

  4. Love the Veronica longiflorum. My sweet peas haven't bloomed yet nor have the black-eyed susan vines.
Restoring gardens must be very rewarding...would be interesting to see before and after pictures.

  5. Thank you all for your comments. The sweet peas are flowering a little better now we have had some rain but still not as good as previous years. This Veronica is a shorter variety than some others but at least it doesn't flop over.
Patsi, there is 'A potted history' of the garden on my website.

  6. Hi Gill, You have a very lovely garden indeed. I like the landscape in the first photo. How do you keep the grass away from the plants so neatly?

  7. Thank you One. I don't keep the grass from the plants, it's just that the plants haven't reached the grass - yet.

  8. How's your garden right now? Perhaps it would livelier if you put more perennial flowers of different colors in it. You can also place medicinal plants there for therapeutic purposes.

  9. That’s okay to notice the things you’ve done but shouldn’t have. The realization is actually something to be thankful for. You know, most of the important things in gardening are only learned by doing. ‘Cos even though there are already known practices, some don’t always work - remember that. How’s your garden now?

  10. I have pink, blue, and white Veronicas in my garden. They are really attractive especially because they are surrounded with yellow daffodils. You can just imagine how colorful and vibrant they are! :D Those are the flowers that I really love the most. My friends also love it!
